Whip It Live!

27FEB2010-CNPower

A few weeks ago on a flight home from somewhere I watched the movie Whip It.  It was the only movie left on Air Canada that I hadn’t already seen and it was that or some romance set in the 1800’s, no thanks.  It was a decent movie and reminded me about a post from a colleagues blog on the Toronto Roller Derby.

A $28 PayPal transaction later and we had our tickets!  It was a fun event, the atmosphere was great and the music was loud.  The refs and skaters all had great nicknames like Lou’s Yer Daddy, Elvis Refsley, Lady Gag-ya and my favorite Defe Katelin ;)

It wasn’t as violent as it was in the movies, not sure if it’s because Hollywood added some or because this was a flat track and they don’t go as fast.  Still there were some great hits and I wouldn’t want to skate against any of these ladies!
